United Airlines has a distinguished legacy as one of the great US airlines, and over the last 25 years, United has extended that tradition of excellence into the international marketplace, becoming one of the largest and most respected airlines in the world. During that period of rapid growth, and even years before, the famed United "U", or as it's known in some circles, "the tulip" has been recognized as one of the greatest and most widely recognized logos in the world. The "U", which first took flight in 1974, was derived from the old United "badge" which first entered service in 1941. For nearly seventy years, the United "U" has been flying the skies in some form. This website is dedicated to the preservation of both the history of it and the excellence that it represents. With the proposed merger with Continental Airlines, United will once again be able to attain new heights. Our cause, is to ensure that those new milestones are met with deference to the history and tradition that have made United the great airline that it is. United, once again, stands at the forefront of history; removing its internationally famed stamp is no way to leave its mark.
Chairman Glenn Tilton and CEO Jeff Smisek should be proud for putting together a proposed merger which creates value for shareholders, customers, and employees. With your support, we will be asking them to reconsider jettisoning one of the great, historic, and symbolic logos in American and aviation history. The United U is much more than just a logo; it is a symbol. For millions of Americans, international travelers, road warriors, and shareholders, the United U stands as a symbol stronger than almost any other. The United U is a symbol of family and of togetherness. In it's simplest form, the United U is a symbol of Uniting people; isn't that what the airline business is all about? No logo would be more apt for United's new slogan, "Let's Fly Together" than the logo that has been representing that very concept for over 35 years.
Please take thirty seconds of your time and click above to preserve this long-standing symbol of family and unison.
